our debut EP! 👻
I told you I’d be back! 👻 My deepest gratitude to everyone who replied to the last newsletter with love for Bubble Wrap. We’ve been so busy with the technical/digital side of making music that we haven’t really had time for the jamming/basking in your accomplishments side. So thank you for jamming on our behalf!
Things have been so hectic over here at the Times (lol) that I almost forgot to officially announce – to you the readers and to the wider world – that our debut EP comes out in FIVE DAYS! 😱 It’s called Periphery, and it features a combination of new songs, existing favorites, and a hybrid of the two. But hey: teasers are for Instagram. The newsletter is SPECIAL. So just for you, reader, here’s the full track list:
1. Bubble Wrap
2. Love Me In September
3. Couch (Loud Version)
4. Captain Of The Enterprise
5. Periphery
I’m very excited about this new version of Couch. It’s more like the way we’ve been performing it live for the past few years, with a mid-2000s Avril Lavigne rock ballad feel. The sonic equivalent of “say it louder for the people in the back,” this version grew from experiencing yet another heartbreak and finding myself turning to my own song for comfort. Like, girl, didn’t you learn this already? So now I’m yelling it at myself (and you) so I don’t forget that I know how to know that I’m going to be okay. (Also, since there’s been some confusion, all this talk of heartbreak and healing with Couch and Bubble Wrap was in, like, 2023. Fear not, Keelan and I are still very much in love. Sorry for the scare, mom!)
We did a reverse-title-track situation with the EP, saving the eponymous song for last. It’s a semi-spooky, mega-funky disco-pop number that offers a playfully toxic departure from the sadgirl genre. It takes “the laundry list of things that are reminders of you” (yes I’m quoting my own sadgirl song lol) and inverts it, making it an intentional act of revenge; when you can sense that you’re about to get your heart broken, you have a rare opportunity to make sure the heartbreaker can’t get rid of the thought of you too easily. It’s mostly fictional, but like all spooky stories it has a bit of truth to it; after all, how many of you have at some point or another received a box of coffee beans from me? 😉
If you’re a Spotify user, you can pre-save the EP here; it helps us loads and is also a nice reminder to listen when it comes out. I think it’s the perfect soundtrack for your trip to the polls the next day! 🤭🗳️ And in case you missed it, we have a new band account and an upcoming tour! Our first stop in Philly is less than 2 weeks away! We’ll see you there, and hopefully you’ll see us next week on your streaming platform of choice. Thanks as always for reading, dear readers. Let me know what Halloween costume(s) you have planned for this weekend, and/or pics if you celebrated last weekend. Okloveyoubyeeeeeee 🧡
